Grandmaster Young Soo Chang and Master Catherine Chang, the founders of Changs Taekwondo America, are committed to offer the support, encouragement, and discipline necessary for every student to reach their goals. The mission of Changs Tae Kwon Do America is to help each student become the best they can be.
Taekwondo training will increase your physical and mental strength, flexibility, balance, speed, and self-confidence. Our program for adults is based on Taekwondo Five Tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverence, Self Control, and Indomitable Spirit.
Our Taekwondo classes for adults provide a great workout in a traditional martial arts class format that is fun as well as challenging. From the first class you will feel stress relief, and over the weeks and months your overall fitness, focus, and self-confidence will continue to grow. Each student begins at a different place, but we all work together in class to challenge and encourage one another. Whether you are a current or former athlete in martial arts, dance or another sport, or are looking for ways to overcome a sedentary lifestyle, you will find that Taekwondo increases your speed, strength, balance, flexibility, endurance, reflexes and coordination. Whether you are in your 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's or even 60-plus, Taekwondo training is for you.
As we age, we may stop exercising due to limitations from arthritis, obesity, or other ailments. The sedentary lifestyle then places us at risk for even more age-related decline. Poor habits such as smoking, vaping, over-consumption of alcohol or fast-food, lack of sleep, household clutter and disorganization, workaholism, and the normal stresses of work and family life, create further risk of physical and mental decline. No matter where you are in your journey, it is never too late to make a change. Adopt Taekwondo as a lifetime sport, and set yourself on a path to achieve success and maintain healthy habits for the rest of your life.
Adult classes are on weekday evenings that fit into your commuting schedule. Here's your chance to breathe, stretch, run, kick, punch, jump and yell at the end of a stressful work day. Saturday morning classes include our "all belts all ages" class with high-energy, fun workout activities for everyone. Our members commit to attending a minimum of two classes per week. For best results we recommend you attend three or more times per week, and practice at home for a few minutes every day.
Color belt testing is held six times each year, with black belt testing every six months. It generally takes about three years to attain first dan black belt. During the black belt journey you will discover capacity within yourself that you will apply to every area of your life. The fighting skills of Taekwondo are meant to help us fight the obstacles within ourselves, that hold us back from achieving our goals. The goal of Taekwondo testing is to build self-confidence.
When you join Chang's Taekwondo America you will become a part of the larger Taekwondo community in our region and beyond. Our students participate in local and regional Taekwondo tournaments. For those with an interest in contributing to the community, black belts will have opportunities for training and practice in leadership roles: organizing events, assisting with classes, participating in our black belt demo team, or even becoming a referee at local tournaments. For those seeking greater physical challenges, our 24-hour Discipline Camps provide "hard training" to test your perseverance and build your endurance. Join our tour to visit South Korea and experience the culture, traditions, and cuisine of the country from which Taekwondo originated.
